When her only daughter announced that she was getting engaged, Mother insisted on having a huge garden party. Mother insisted on a small marquee, and tables and chairs outside on the lawn, so the party could go ahead whatever the weather, or so she thought!
Everything was fine until the wind started to get up, blowing up the table clothes and knocking over the glasses upon the tables. Suddenly, the heavens opened to create a heavy down-pour. Everyone immediately headed for the marquee. Unfortunately, the ground had become slippery, causing Mother to slip and cover her new dress with mud.
Inside the marquee, Father was making his speech when there is a ripping sound, followed by a large scream, as Mother is drenched by water which has collected in the tent canvas roof before tearing it asunder.
Mother, for the first time in ages, was silent.
